It’s always delightful to see numbers being associated with real-world sociology problems. “The science of science” is an emerging interdisciplinary field that uses data to study patterns in science. It examines scientific careers, collaboration, and impact so that practical advice can be given to scientists and policymakers.
Recently, I’ve come across several articles that address concerns that deeply resonate with me and my friends. These concerns are particularly interesting because they offer a clear connection to larger social trends from a more macroscope perspective. By examining these individual anxieties, one can demystify academic life, receive valuable insights, and build confidence, especially for students preparing to enter or transition out of the ‘ivory tower.’
